Penultimate Journey
Rajmohan Sunkara(ex-Municipal Vice Chairman,Gudur)
A severe cyclonic storm struck south coastal Andhra and north coastal Tamil nadu, during November 1970.
At the same time Bangladesh was devastated by one of the deadliest cyclonic storms.
I was convalescing from infective hepatitis during that time.
My father, Late Dr. Ramachandra Rao Sunkara, was taken to Madras City-
situated 84 miles south east of Gudur town, for treatment - on 19th November 1970.
He died on November 22 as a result of complications from congestive heart failure.
As cyclonic storm had completely destroyed all direct routes of transportation,
we had to cover a distance of around 300 miles to bring my father's body back to Gudur.
It was an agonizing ordeal for all concerned as thousands of his admirers had to wait for nearly 24 hours
to see the lifeless body of a man who they affectionately called "The best doctor for a bad case".
